CALENDAR OF EVENTS

A variety of activities are already on the schedule for this second Acadian Heritage Week, which will take place from September 11 through 19. The organizers Encourage all citizens of Louisiana to celebrate Acadian Heritage Week, and hope to create a context in which we can all celebrate the Acadian heritage of Louisiana in our own ways, whether by highlighting the folkways, cuisine, music, traditions or history of the Acadian community. Events will be added to this page on a regular basis. Please visit us again.

April 11th to May 30th - daily 10 to 4- Art Exhibition at the Acadian Memorial
Cajun Privitives, "The Lifestyles and Stories of an Artist's Cajun Ancestors"
Art exhibition of Primitive Folk Artist, Ms. Mary Anne Pecot de Boisblanc. Ms. de Boisblanc is a native artist who captures the lifestyles of her Cajun ancestors who lived along the Bayou Lafourche and Teche. Ms.de Boisblanc, at 79 years old, feels she has a mission to accomplish. It is to preserve her ethnic culture through the medium of folk art.  Her works are a loving contribution to the historic roots, culture and traditions of Cajuns of south Louisiana.

Sunday, May 1, May Day: Annual May Day procession (5:30 p.m.)
The Acadian Memorial and the St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church, mother church of the Acadians, will join in honoring Mary, Patron Saint of the Acadians, at the annual May Day procession.  The procession will end at the Longfellow-Evangeline Commemorative State Park with a staged theatre telling the story of the Acadian's strong faith.

Friday, May 6:
The Acadian Memorial is proud to announce that Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco is scheduled to attend the dedication of engraved granite plaques honoring the four Acadian Governors, additional new Mosaic Acadian Family Crests, and tile work around the Acadian Memorial Garden's Eternal Flame.  
Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, the first female Acadian Governor, will be honored with a special acknowledgement and a wall-hanging "Babineaux" coat of arm.  This tribute to the Acadian Governors and dedication is held as a commemoration of the 250 Year Anniversay of the Acadian Deportation.
The Acadian Memorial extends an invitation to join in this commemorative event to honor our Acadian Names and Governors on May 6, 2005 at 3:00 PM in the Acadian Memorial Hall and Garden. (121 South New Market)  For more information, please call 337.394.2258.

Organized by CAFA, this is the perfect day to gather your family and head for a day of fun in Rayne with other Acadian/Cajun families. For more information, visit www.cafa.org

Commemorative French Mass, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Westwego (X parish).

Monday, September 12
Reading of the Proclamation for Acadian Heritage Week at meetings of the Jefferson Parish Council and by the Mayors at the city council meetings of Westwego, Gretna, Jean Lafitte and Grand Isle at the last meeting prior to this date.

Tuesday, September 13
Dinner-Dance. Cajun Band. Four Columns, Harvey; 7 to 11 p.m.

Friday, September 16: Judge Allen M. Babineaux International Civil Law Symposium
The proclamation for Acadian Heritage Week will be read during the President's Report at the September 7th Council Meeting at 5:30 p.m in the Ted Ardoin Auditorium.
